Using a clone inside a course
What students actually use it for.
Inside a course, a clone works best as an optional layer beside the material, not a gate in front of it.
What students ask
- "What does this mean in my situation?"
- "I am stuck on this module"
- "Can you explain that again more simply?"
- "What should I do first?"
What to avoid
Do not make talking to it compulsory, and do not use it to quiz people. Your students are adults doing this voluntarily, and a forced check-in reads as homework.
Feed it the course
Add your lesson material as knowledge so it can answer specifically rather than generally. Transcripts of your own video lessons are ideal, because they carry both the content and your delivery.
Place it beside the lesson
A widget on the lesson page gets used. A link in a welcome email gets forgotten by module three.
