This guide walks you through what that line usually means and how to follow up the same day, step by step, using what the lead has already told you without meaning to.
What "I'll think about it" usually means
When a lead says they will think about it, it is rarely about needing quiet time to think. More often it means there is a worry they did not say out loud. It might be the price, the timing, or a doubt about whether coaching like yours will work for someone in their situation. Because they never said it, you never got the chance to answer it, and an unanswered worry tends to grow once the call ends.
That is why a polite "just checking in" message so often lands flat: it does nothing about the thing that stopped them.
Why waiting a week usually fails
It is tempting to give a lead some space and plan to check in next week. The trouble is that the worry does not go away while you wait. It simply stops being your conversation, and by the time you write, the lead has often moved on to something else or talked themselves out of it.
Wait a week
- Call ends
- Worry grows, unanswered
- "Just checking in"
- Moved on
Follow up today
- Call ends
- Read what they asked
- Answer that question
- One next step
A better rule is simple: follow up today, not next week, and make the follow up about the one thing they were actually unsure of. To do that, you need two things, a way to reach them and a clue to what the worry was. If your leads chat with your Second Self, the AI version of you trained on your own material, you can have both.

Step 1: Switch on email capture
The first step happens before any call. In Personify, open your Second Self from AI Clones in the dashboard, go to the Deploy step, open the Visitors tab, and switch on Capture emails. The setting is described in the app as "Ask visitors for their email so you can follow up. They show up in Contacts."
Once it is on, you choose when to ask. Before they can chat means an email is required to start, so every chat becomes a lead. After the first answer is a friendly ask once the visitor is engaged, and they can skip it. The first gives you more contacts, while the second feels lighter for a cautious visitor, so pick the one that suits how your leads arrive. If you charge for access, the email is always asked for first, because paid access needs it. You can also change the headline and button text on the form so it sounds like you.
Option in the app When the email is asked Can they skip it? Suits Before they can chat Before the first message No More contacts: every chat becomes a lead After the first answer Once the visitor is engaged Yes Cautious visitors: a lighter ask Charge for access Always first No Paid access, which needs the email One practical note: if you test this yourself while signed in, the app lets you straight through without the email form, because you are the owner. Open your link in a private window to see exactly what a visitor sees.

Step 2: Find the lead in Contacts
When a visitor leaves their email, they show up in Contacts in your dashboard. Click a contact and you will see how many conversations they have had with your Second Self, when they were first captured, and, where one has been written, a short summary. If a lead from a discovery call has also chatted with your Second Self, before or after the call, this is where you will find them.
- 03
Step 3: Open the transcript and find the question
From the contact, click View Conversation to open everything they typed and every answer your Second Self gave. You can also reach the same place through Conversations in the dashboard. Finished conversations may carry a short summary at the top, but read the thread itself as well.
You are looking for one thing: the question that sounds like a worry. It might be "Is this realistic if I only have a few hours a week?", "What if I have tried coaching before and it did not stick?", or "Do you work with people who are just starting out?". That question is your best clue to what they did not say on the call, because it is the one they cared about enough to type out.
MayaAI · OnlineIs this realistic if I only have a few hours a week?MayaIt can be. Most of the work happens in short blocks between sessions, so the real question is which two slots in your week you could protect. What does a normal week look like for you?Message Maya...The question that sounds like a worry, in the lead's own words. This is what you answer in your follow up. Example conversation. - 04
Step 4: Write back the same day, about that question
Now write to them, today. Do not send a general check in, and do not send a nudge to book. Answer the thing they asked, in your own words, and offer one clear next step. Keep it short enough to read on a phone, and make the next step easy to say yes or no to.
A good same day follow up has three parts.
Name the question they asked, so they know you listened.
Give a real answer, specific to their situation, in two or three sentences.
Offer one next step with a time or a link, and nothing else.
Three follow up messages you can adapt
Use these as a starting shape, not a script. Swap in the lead's own words from the transcript, and write the answer the way you would say it on a call.
Hi Sam, earlier you asked whether this would work with only a few hours a week. It can, and here is how I would set it up for that: we would agree on one focus for each fortnight, and the work between sessions would fit into two short blocks you choose. If it helps, I have Thursday at ten free to walk through what that would look like for you.
Hi Priya, you asked my Second Self whether coaching would help someone who has tried it before and found it did not stick. That is a fair question. What usually makes the difference is agreeing at the start what "working" means for you, so we can both see it early or change course. Would a short call on Monday or Tuesday be useful to talk that through?
Hi Tom, I saw you asked whether I work with people who are just starting out. I do, and we would start with the basics and build from there at your pace. If you would like, reply with the one thing you most want to have sorted in three months, and I will tell you honestly whether I am the right person for it.
None of them says "just following up", lists packages, or adds pressure. Each picks up exactly where the lead left off.
A few habits that make this work
Check Contacts at a fixed time each day. The value of this method is speed, so give it a slot, such as the end of your working day, when you open Contacts, read any new conversations, and write back.
Answer one question, not all of them. If the transcript shows several questions, pick the one that sounds most like a worry. A message that answers everything reads like a brochure.
Write it yourself. Your Second Self handles the first conversation in your voice, but the follow up should come from you. It is the moment the lead finds out a real person read what they asked.
Ask before you add them to a list. A captured email is a way to reply to someone who asked you a question. It is not permission to add them to a newsletter, so ask first.
Recap
When a lead says "I'll think about it", there is usually a worry behind it that they did not say out loud. Switch on email capture so leads who chat with your Second Self show up in Contacts, open the transcript to see what they actually asked, and write back the same day about that question, with one clear next step. Follow up today, not next week.

FAQ
Do I need a Second Self for this to work?+
No. The habit of writing back the same day about the lead's real question works for any coach. A Second Self helps because, when the lead leaves their email, you get both a way to reach them and a written record of what they asked, which is often the clue you are missing after a call.
Will asking for an email put visitors off?+
It can for some, which is why there are two options. "Before they can chat" makes every chat a lead. "After the first answer" asks once the visitor is engaged and lets them skip it, so some chats will end without an email. If you charge for access, the email is always asked for first. Try the lighter option first if your visitors tend to be cautious.
I switched capture on but the email form does not appear when I test it. Is it broken?+
Probably not. When you are signed in as the owner, the app lets you straight through. Open your link in a private window to see what a visitor sees.
Where do I find what a lead asked?+
Open the contact in Contacts and click View Conversation, or go to Conversations in your dashboard. You will see the full thread of what they typed and how your Second Self answered.
What if the lead never chatted with my Second Self?+
Then use what you remember from the call. Write down the question they hesitated on, and follow up the same day about that. The method is the same, you just have less to go on.
Know what your lead was unsure of
A Second Self answers visitors in your words and keeps the transcript, so the next follow up starts from their real question.
